With the bombardment of information in today's world, I have to actually THINK about using my brain. That sounds weird but it's true.
Check out this stat:
A single week of the New York Times contains more information than the average person absorbed in a lifetime in the 18th century.
That's wild. (So are some of the other stats in this popular video.)
The scary thing is I rarely think about the validity of the information that's being delivered. Whether it's something an author has written in a book, a TV show host has said on air, or a blogger has posted the internet; I usually fail to consider that the message is greatly impacted by the opinion of the author.
The web is making it easier than ever for individuals to share their messages with the masses. That's great because it puts the power back in the hands of the people, but it also means the people must be more diligent about evaluating the message.
